Podoplea is a superorder of copepods in the infraclass Neocopepoda that was named by Wilhelm Giesbrecht in 1882.1 It has a worldwide distribution, with documented appearances in the Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, and Southern oceans.12
