Mesenchyme homeobox 2 (MEOX2) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MEOX2 gene.56

Function

This gene encodes a member of a subfamily of non-clustered, diverged, antennapedia-like homeobox-containing transcription factor genes. The encoded protein may play a role in the regulation of vertebrate limb myogenesis. Mutations in the related mouse protein may be associated with craniofacial and/or skeletal abnormalities, in addition to neurovascular dysfunction observed in Alzheimer's disease.6 MEOX2 has been implicated in the initiation of tumors in glioma.7 Additionally, MEOX2 influences several critical processes in lung cancer, including cellular proliferation, invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis, and the development of drug resistance.8910

Interactions

MEOX2 has been shown to interact with PAX111 and PAX3.11
