Difficult Run first appeared as a census designated place in the 2020 U.S. census.5

2020 census

As of the 2020 census, Difficult Run had a population of 10,600.67 The median age was 46.0 years. 25.1% of residents were under the age of 18 and 18.9% were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 100.8 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 97.1 males age 18 and over.6

There were 3,451 households in Difficult Run, of which 41.5% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 81.5% were married-couple households, 6.5% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 9.9% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 8.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.6

There were 3,519 housing units, of which 1.9% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 0.4% and the rental vacancy rate was 4.8%. 100.0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 0.0% lived in rural areas.68
