Mis-citing of WP:MOSLEAD
I'm not sure if you checked the policy you cited re: citations in the lede, but it says:
Because the lead usually repeats information that is in the body, editors should balance the desire to avoid redundant citations in the lead with the desire to aid readers in locating sources for challengeable material.
Note that the text in question had been tagged as "citation needed", which is why I added the refs. Note also that the policy says:
Although the presence of citations in the lead is neither required in every article nor prohibited in any article, there is no exception to citation requirements specific to leads. The necessity for citations in a lead should be determined on a case-by-case basis by editorial consensus. Complex, current, or controversial subjects may require many citations; others, few or none.
In other words, citations in the lead are fine if needed.
I've responded to your comment on my talk page, but thought I'd comment here, too, in case you aren't watching that page. Since it seems you removed the refs twice (I was actually mid-edit when you removed it the first time, so that was an edit conflict rather than an intentional reversion), I wanted to make sure this doesn't escalate to edit warring.
I also wanted to clarify that I am most definitely not a new editor. Lewisguile (talk) 18:50, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
