I used to be able to close AfDs manually (without installing too much more extra scripting than I want to install) merely by subst'ing {{at}} and {{ab}}. Now I cannot do that and your close of Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2026 April 24 § Template:At provides no guidance on what to do instead.

WP:CLOSEAFD says nothing about how to close AfDs manually. Nor does WP:XFDCLOSE. It is only by groveling through the deleted code of the template that I can learn of the existence of {{AfD top}} and its longer shortcut {{afdt}}. Is there a good rationale for making me type four more characters every time (two for top two for bottom)?

Also ping @Primefac: who together with you are responsible for the deletion of this manual AfD-closing method, with a rationale that completely ignores its use for manually closing AfDs. —David Eppstein (talk) 19:03, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

{{vt}} is a redirect to {{afd top}} you could use. If you really wanted I'm sure there's no prejudice against recreating {{at}} as a redirect. Primefac (talk) 19:37, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
