More badgering

Hi Peter, sorry to bother you again, have you considered requesting a new Wikimedia Project about recording oral knowledge/traditions? While it may take some time for attitudes both in broader scholarship and at enwiki to change, that could be productive in the meantime. Imo it's a massive gap that's indicative of the Wikimedia movement catering primarily to Western audiences. All the best, Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 18:20, 20 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

See m:Yoruba Oral Tradition Project for instance, a wiki for that Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 19:00, 20 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'll request a new WikiProject only once we have editors actively doing that. That is, so many that it requires a project to coordinate them. I don't currently see that, but I'm also currently a bit removed from Wikimedia projects due to real-life incidents. --Pgallert (talk) 20:28, 22 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

"Incidents" doesn’t sound good, I’m sorry to hear that. Re projects, there are/have been lots of isolated projects, events, and movements that may benefit from some sort of centralisation/coordination (these are from the first 200 results searching oral tradition on meta, there are over 1000 results):

I didn't mean tragedies, there is just an awful lot going on. No need to worry, but thank you anyway. Eventually I'll find the time again for projects. --Pgallert (talk) 17:27, 23 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I will no doubt be back to pester you again in a few months time lol Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 17:44, 23 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
(there is also m:Afrika Baraza. Hope all goes well) Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 16:48, 25 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
(also, idk if you're interested but there's another RFL for Kwanyama where the idea of an Ovambo Wikipedia has been floated, but to do that we'd need to ask SIL to merge the ISO codes for Kwanyama and Ondonga into Ovambo. I'd do it myself but I'm not familiar enough with the language and linguistics in general, and idk what effects this would have outside Wikipedia) Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 23:26, 26 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but I've asked m:User:Olaniyan Olushola [1], couldn't help myself :) Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 13:56, 4 July 2026 (UTC)[reply]
