A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Diplomacy
For navigating complex arguments and making a potentially difficult decision at afd. –DMartin (talk) 00:42, 4 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mkdw. You closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nyingchi Convention and Exhibition Center as "delete". I see a consensus not to have a standalone article but not a consensus to delete. Would you restore the article's history and revise the close to be a "merge to Nyingchi#Economy" so that I can do a selective merge? Thank you. Cunard (talk) 07:22, 4 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I reviewed the article and read the AFD discussion which included a well laid out rationale for deletion by Dclemens1971; Kelob2678 who supported deletion after reviewing several sources and made valid arguments that they do not include significant coverage; the article's creator TinaLees-Jones who said the article has been improved, but did not provide for how these changes sufficiently improve the article to meet our notability guidelines, or address other concerns; and then your recommendation for merge as an alternative to deletion (noting that no other editor supported this albeit on a sparsely participated AFD that had been relisted twice). If anything, this could have been potentially closed as no consensus, though I felt there was a clear consensus that this article does not meet our inclusion criteria. I read your comment as validating that there was not significant coverage, though you felt parts of it could be useful in another article. There was no consensus to merge or to save parts of the article, including from the article's creator to merge. I cannot unjustifiably change my close. You can appeal this decision at WP:DRV if you feel the consensus was indeed merge. I don't think others will agree. If you would like this userified, I would consider it, or you can request so at WP:REFUND. Mkdw talk 03:58, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I do not believe there was consensus to merge, but I have no objection to an admin emailing @Cunard the deleted content so they can add appropriate encyclopedic content (while avoiding AI-generated fluff) from the deleted page to the target. Dclemens1971 (talk) 04:23, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Even if TinaLees-Jones' comment is completely discounted, I don't see a consensus to delete. Two editors made policy-based arguments against for deletion and one editor made a policy-based argument against deletion and for merging. No editors explained why the subject shouldn't be covered in the proposed target (which would justify a redirect), so no policy-based argument against redirecting or merging was advanced at the AfD. A WP:BARTENDER close would have concluded that there is a consensus against a standalone article "but an absence of consensus as to what should be done next. The most reasonable outcome is to close the discussion as merge and redirect, given the equally clear absence of consensus for outright deletion, and WP:PRESERVE."
Since you are willing to consider userfying the content, I would prefer to proceed with that approach rather than opening a deletion review. To facilitiate a merge, I would prefer that the article be moved to draftspace at Draft:Nyingchi Convention and Exhibition Center rather than in my userspace. After I do the merge:
  1. I will redirect Draft:Nyingchi Convention and Exhibition Center to Nyingchi#Economy.
  2. I will redirect Nyingchi Convention and Exhibition Center to Nyingchi#Economy and note in the edit summary that the page history is now available in draftspace.
I'd prefer that the article's history be undeleted under a redirect in mainspace rather than using the more complicated draftspace approach I described above. However, if there are objections to that, I'm fine with the approach I outlined above. Cunard (talk) 07:47, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
“Two editors made policy-based arguments against deletion and one editor made a policy-based argument against deletion and for merging.” I don’t know how you arrived at that interpretation of the discussion. Mkdw talk 08:25, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I used the incorrect word. I've fixed it to "for" instead of "against". Cunard (talk) 08:30, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Notwithstanding our differing interpretations of the consensus, would you move Nyingchi Convention and Exhibition Center's history to Draft:Nyingchi Convention and Exhibition Center? It will be useful for me to have access to the article's content and sources so I can add material about the subject to Nyingchi#Economy. Cunard (talk) 09:55, 6 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. Mkdw talk 22:19, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
  • The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
  • Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
  • Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
  • The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.

Question about re-creating redirect to replace a salted article

Hello, as you were the closing administrator of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jacob Hornberger (3rd nomination), which resulted in the deleted article being WP:SALT-ed, I was wondering if it would be feasible to re-create Jacob Hornberger as a redirect to 2024 Libertarian presidential primaries#Candidate (which existed prior to the most re-creation of the artice) - per this discussion - without fouling up the extended confirmed access status. TIA for advising. Sal2100 (talk) 21:18, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
