Hi, Barkeep49, hope you're okay. You were kind enough to give me some advice back in May, and I'm afraid I do need to ask for more.

The issues with Blue Square Thing (BST) continue to arise frequently, as I am constantly finding articles which need restoration or repair; or which have WP:PA edit summaries. A typical example is Sir John Gibbons, 4th Baronet, which only came to light this week because a friend mentioned that the article title should include the baronetcy. For the umpteenth time, I found that I have been accused of 'making things up', which is totally unacceptable.

I posted a reply on the talk page. I don't think for one second that my response will ever register with BST, but I need something there which exonerates me, as anyone can read that 'edit summary', and some people might believe it. I admit I sometimes make mistakes, but I NEVER make things up.

I thought when I clicked on Gibbons that it would be just a quick move, plus a few redirect targets. Instead, I spent a whole afternoon on it, making sure it is satisfactory, defending myself, and providing a list of all the 'made up' matches. This sort of action is now par for the course where articles on early cricket are concerned, on account of the damage done during my absence until last November. I reckon that over two thousand cricket articles have needed attention since then, and there could well be hundreds more still out there.

The fundamental issue with BST is WP:CIR, but one of the biggest problems is his serial breaches of WP:PRESERVE, especially in the season review series from 1726 English cricket season to 1800 English cricket season. I've recently been developing 1773 English cricket season, which I'm thinking of adding to WP:GAN. If you look at the August 2018 version of 1773, I think you'll agree it was then a work in progress that needed standard citations, and conversion of the match table to prose. But, if you look at the February 2019 version, you will see something that effectively mirrors a statistical database. Since November, I've had to spend considerable time restoring and repairing all 75 of these season reviews.

I have no wish to take part in another ANI bunfight, where some editors don't even look at the diffs provided. BST's attitude and behaviour were well assessed in these posts by other editors. There are also innumerable instances of WP:BITE, which is a real concern as we need to enlarge our membership at WP:CRIC. The project has lost Lugnuts and Joseph2302 because of their indiscretions, but I can confidently state that they would do good work for the project if reinstated (subject to compliance with any sanctions, of course). BST, on the other hand, can just walk back in at anytime and carry on as before, which would mean more and more repair work needing to be done. Joseph and Lugnuts were good editors who behaved badly, and were blocked; BST is a bad editor who also behaves badly, and yet he has never been blocked. I would stress that the issues are much more about conduct than content, although content suffers as a result of his conduct.

Because in general there are only a few options are behavior pieces and I can't think of an option other than ANI for this. Hi, Barkeep49. Thanks for your reply. BST changed his userid to Anifail Aneglur Iawn just before he left last November. Page histories use his new name, but posts retain his old one. I'll put some thought into ANI, probably by researching how other editors have raised their cases there, and see what I can come up with. I certainly need a much better approach. (talk page stalker) Neither ANI nor anywhere else is going to be interested in the behavior of someone who hasn't edited since last November. That's basically what you were told in May, and if the only thing that's changed is that you found some more edits from many years ago, going back to ANI is really not a good idea. I'm worried that you're just letting this user live rent-free in your head. He's not causing any problems when he isn't editing, and if he ever does decide to come back, any issues can be sorted out at that point. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 00:34, 1 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

There will obviously be many more articles needing restoration or repair, and many of them will have antagonistic edit summaries. I must rise above it. Congratulations on the laureate! I never really thanked you for your kind Wiki Gem. But, thanks. I've been really stressed about Wikipedia lately, I got my NPP rights revoked, and I don't really know what my purpose on this website is. I almost left a retirement banner, because I was so done with it all. I mean when you spent months of hard work and emotion just for people to downplay it as something that has no soul. However, your comment made me keep going, and I started to realize that anything is possible on Wikipedia. Anyways, I really haven't felt the same about Wikipedia since the revocation; whenever I log onto Wikipedia all I can think about is that green checkmark and how much I miss it. • Improvement to Reading Lists: Community feedback around the placement of watchstar and watchlist buttons for the Reading Lists beta feature has been incorporated. 93% of participating users reported that it was useful. This feature allows saving articles for later reading – a wishlist item to bring the functionality to web.
• Creating custom edit suggestions: With the TextMatch feature, volunteers can now create custom local suggestions within the VisualEditor for improving Wikipedia articles. You can find examples from other communities for inspiration. Share your feedback.
• Dark mode for Content Translation: Content Translation now supports dark mode, fulfilling a Community Wishlist request. This brings the tool in line with the accessibility features available in the Vector 2022 and Minerva skins, helping reduce visual fatigue for users translating content.
• Mobile page preview: Based on the conclusion of the experiment, mobile page previews feature will not be rolled out. The experiment showed flat retention and negative indicator metrics, suggesting that mobile web readers preferred navigating directly to linked articles rather than using page previews.
• Scaling of Explore Feed to iOS: The Explore Feed Refresh initiative was tested with new and casual Wikipedia app readers. The refreshed feed helps readers discover new and relevant content. After a 10.5% increase in engagement with the feed, Home Feed redesign will be scaled to iOS by applying the learnings from the Android release.
• Improving Account Creation process: After running several Account Creation Experiments to improve registration completion rates, a new version of the username field on Create Account has been rolled out. Read more.
