Ranabaali is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language historical action drama film directed by Rahul Sankrityan and co-written by Pramod Tammineni. Jointly produced by Mythri Movie Makers and T-Series Films, the film stars Vijay Deverakonda in the titular role alongside Rashmika Mandanna and South African actor Arnold Vosloo, of The Mummy (1999) fame.¹²³

Set against a 19th-century historical backdrop, the film explores unorganized resistance movements that emerged during British colonial rule between 1854 and 1878, specifically surrounding the Great Famine of 1876–1878 in the Rayalaseema region.⁴¹

The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 11 September 2026, alongside dubbed versions in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.⁵

Set in the 19th century under the British Raj, Ranabaali highlights the economic exploitation and severe artificial droughts inflicted upon rural communities under colonial administrators like Sir Richard Temple.

Amidst severe famine in a land designated as "cursed," a localized resistance leader named Ranabaali (Vijay Deverakonda) emerges to counter the British imperial policies and military actions spearheaded by the regional administrator, Sir Theodore Hector (Arnold Vosloo).

According to the production crew, the narrative functions as a cinematic reconstruction assembled from oral histories and suppressed records of events traditionally omitted or misrepresented in mainstream colonial historiography.¹⁶

The project was initially announced on 9 May 2024 under the working title VD14, marking the 14th lead role for actor Vijay Deverakonda.⁷ On 26 January 2026, coinciding with Republic Day, the film's official title Ranabaali was formally unveiled alongside a promotional first-look glimpse video by presenters T-Series.¹

The project marks the second collaboration between director Rahul Sankrityan and Deverakonda following the 2018 supernatural comedy Taxiwaala.⁸ It also marks the third collaboration between Deverakonda and Mandanna following Geetha Govindam (2018) and Dear Comrade (2019), serving as their first on-screen project together following their marriage in February 2026.⁸⁴

For his portrayal of the titular insurgent, Deverakonda undertook six months of intensive equestrian and horseback training to execute the film's period action sequences.⁹ In January 2026, South African actor Arnold Vosloo was officially cast to portray the primary antagonist, Sir Theodore Hector.⁵

The film's musical score and soundtrack are composed by the duo Ajay–Atul, marking their first collaboration with director Rahul Sankrityan.⁶

The film is scheduled to be theatrically released on 11 September 2026 in its original Telugu version alongside dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.⁵

Post-theatrical digital streaming rights were purchased under an exclusive rights agreement with Netflix.¹⁰
