Pleuromeris is a genus of bivalve molluscs in the family Carditidae.13
Description
Members of the genus have small subtrigonal shells with prominent beaks, and steep anterior and posterior slopes that constrict the hinge line laterally. A triangular central tooth is found on the right valve.4
Taxonomy
The genus was first described by Timothy Abbott Conrad in 1867.5
Distribution
Pleuromeris has a cosmopolitan distribution,6 found in areas including South America, the Caribbean Sea, Australia and New Zealand.7 The earliest known fossils date to the Paleocene, and are found in Belgium and New Zealand.2
