The jugular tubercle (of occipital bone¹) is a rounded prominence²^: 568/oval elevation¹ upon the superior (i.e. internal¹) surface of the occipital condyle²^: 817 at the junction of the basilar part and lateral part of the occipital bone, just medial to the jugular foramen²^: 568¹ on either side of the foramen magnum.¹

It overlies (i.e. is situated superior to²^: 568) the hypoglossal canal²^: 817 and is situated anterosuperior to the internal opening of this canal.¹ The glossopharyngeal nerve (CN IX), vagus (CN X), and accessory (CN XI) pass across the posterior portion of the jugular tubercle to reach the jugular foramen.²^: 568
