iOS 27 is the upcoming twentieth major release of Apple's iOS operating system for the iPhone, serving as the successor to iOS 26. It was announced at the 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8, 2026, alongside iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, tvOS 27, and HomePod software 27.3 It will be released in late 2026.

Features

System features

Apple Intelligence

iOS 27 features improved writing tools with Apple Intelligence.45

Siri AI

iOS 27 introduces Siri AI, a new model designed by Apple in collaboration with Google.6 Siri AI is able to handle significantly more complex tasks, such as making shortcuts in the Shortcuts app and planning advanced routes.7 The revamped Siri is similar to an AI chatbot, and it will receive an app where users can look at their past conversations. 8

Battery

A new battery icon was introduced with iOS 27.9

AirPods

The AirPods settings UI has been revamped for iOS 27.10

Parental controls

iOS 27 introduces Ask to Browse, a feature that requests a guardian's permission to see a website,11 and Ask to Approve, which allows guardians to approve new contacts.12 The screen time UI is also getting an update, giving guardians easier ability to manage screen time, and the ability to give screen time per categories, such as entertainment.12

App features

Wallet

iOS 27 features a bill-splitting feature utilizing Apple Cash and Apple Intelligence, and the ability to create passes.1314

Camera

The Camera app adds a new Siri mode that replaces Visual Intelligence. Siri mode introduces features such as nutrition label recognition and the ability to chat with Siri about what the camera sees.15 Further updates to the Camera app include three new or upgraded photo-editing features. Apple Intelligence now features a reframe button, an extend button, and an updated clean up button.16 The reframe button changes the angle that the camera is taking a photo at, filling in new areas that are created with the shift.17 The extend button is similar to the already existing extend button available for wallpapers, in the Photos app, but gives additional accuracy when extending scenes. Finally, an upgraded clean up button works in the same way as iOS 26, but provides higher accuracy when removing objects, powered by Gemini.

Image Playground

iOS 27 improves Image Playground quality, and brings the ability to create photorealistic images locally without having to use ChatGPT. Apple will impose a limit on how many images of this type can be made per day.18

Phone

The Phone app will feature the ability to have relevant information pop up while on a call, such as flight information while users call about flights.19

Passwords

The Passwords app will be able to automatically change passwords that are at risk by using Apple Intelligence to log in and change the password.20

Supported devices

All iPhones that support iOS 26 support iOS 27. Apple retained compatibility with all iPhone models that support iOS 26, including the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone SE (2nd generation). Apple Intelligence features require an Apple A17 Pro chip or newer, as found on the iPhone 15 Pro or newer.21 Even though devices may be Apple Intelligence-ready, some features such as improved Siri voices and improved on-device dictation require an Apple A19 Pro chip, found on iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.22
