Ichthyaetus is a genus of gulls in the order Charadriiformes. The genus name comes from Ancient Greek ἰχθύς (ikhthús), meaning "fish", and ἀετός (aetós), meaning "eagle", and thus, "fish eagle".1 They were previously included in the genus Larus.2
