The PBA Blitz Game, also known as the Rookies–Sophomores–Juniors Game, is an event held during the Philippine Basketball Association's (PBA) All-Star Weekend. The game involves a selection of rookie, sophomore, and junior PBA players, who are divided into two teams, named Team Greats and Team Stalwarts, to compete in a regular basketball game.
History
The Blitz Game was introduced during the 2005 All-Star Weekend. The original format used until 2011 put a team of rookies (first-year players) against a team of sophomores (second-year players), similar to the National Basketball Association's Rising Stars Challenge. From 2012 to 2014, the first iteration of the Greats vs. Stalwarts game was played, which mixes the existing rookie and sophomore pool with a selection of PBA legends. The Blitz Game would then revert back to rookies vs. sophomores format in 2015 before going back to Greats vs. Stalwarts in 2016.
The Blitz Game wasn't played in 2017 or 2018, but when it returned in 2019, juniors (third-year players) are added to the game. The format for 2019 resembled the original format, but this time, rookies and sophomore players are put together to play against the team of junior players. Greats vs. Stalwarts returned with junior players for 2023 and 2024, albeit with the lack of PBA legends, before going back to the 2019 format for 2026.
