OnPay, LLC, is a payroll, human resources, and benefits administration software company for small- and medium-sized businesses in the United States. Founded in 2011 by Jesse Burgess, the company grew out of a family-owned payroll service.
History
OnPay's software was first developed by Jesse Burgess in 2011 after he joined his grandfather's family-owned payroll service and set out to move its manual operations online. In 2015, Burgess spun OnPay off as an independent company.1
The company was mostly self-funded prior to January 2020, when OnPay announced it had raised $6 million in Series A round of funding to expand its services.2 The company subsequently moved its headquarters to Ponce City Market in Midtown Atlanta in 2021.3
In January 2025, OnPay announced it had secured more than $100 million in financing, composed of a $63 million Series B equity round led by Carrick Capital Partners.4 with participation from AB Private Credit Investors — the middle-market private-capital platform of AllianceBernstein — along with existing investors, and a debt facility provided by MC Credit Partners.34
