Daniel E. Sutherland is an American historian who has written books about 19th century America. He wrote a book titled The Confederate Carpetbaggers about southerners who moved north after the American Civil War.1

In 1997, The New York Times published his review of The Confederate War by Gary W. Gallagher.2 He was part of a panel discussion on "The Civil War West of the Mississippi", broadcast in 2012 on C-SPAN.3
