Alburnus is a genus of fish in the family Leuciscidae, the daces and minnows.1 They are known commonly as bleaks.2 A group of species in the genus is known as shemayas.3 The genus occurs in the western Palearctic realm,4 and the center of diversity is in Turkey.5
The genus Chalcalburnus is now part of Alburnus.6
